Makoto Sunakawa (砂川 誠; born August 10, 1977) is a former Japanese football midfielder from Narashino, Chiba.

He began his professional career with Kashiwa Reysol in 1996 after playing for Funabashi High School. He made his J.League Cup debut on June 1 against Urawa Reds and became a regular from 1999, helping Reysol win the 1999 J.League Cup and finish third in the J1 League in 1999 and 2000. After limited playing time in 2002, he moved to Consadole Sapporo in 2003, at the time a club newly relegated to J2.

With Consadole Sapporo, Sunakawa became a regular offensive midfielder and helped the club win the J2 title in 2007 to earn promotion to J1. The team played in J1 in 2008 but finished last and were relegated. From 2009 he faced tougher competition from younger players, yet he remained a key squad member and helped Sapporo return to J1 in 2012. He became the club’s first player to stay with them for more than ten years. After another relegation to J2 in 2013, he continued to play until 2014. In 2015 injuries limited his play, and he moved to FC Gifu in July 2015, retiring at the end of the season.

Sunakawa finished his career with 495 league appearances and 41 goals.
