Majengo, Nairobi
Majengo is a slum in the Pumwani area of Nairobi, Kenya. In 2019 it had about 17,645 residents living in a very crowded area, with a population density of around 51,700 people per square kilometer. It lies about 3 kilometers from Nairobi’s central business district and borders Gikomba Market. Majengo is part of Pumwani ward in Kamukunji sub-county, Nairobi City County, and hosts the headquarters of Kamukunji Constituency. The area includes six villages: Mashimoni, Sofia, Bash/Highrise, Kitui, Digo, and Katanga. Major roads running through Majengo include Digo Road, Lumbwa Street, Meru Road, Lamu Road, and Munyema Street. The community has existed since the 1920s. A Majengo Clinic serves residents. The area is known for crime, prostitution, and domestic violence.
