Lauren Betts
Lauren Betts is an American-British college basketball center who plays for the UCLA Bruins in the Big Ten Conference. Born on October 15, 2003, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, she stands 6 feet 7 inches tall. Her father, Andrew Betts, played professional basketball in Europe for national teams of Great Britain/England, and her mother, Michelle Betts, played volleyball at Long Beach State. The family moved to the United States when she was in third grade, and Betts grew up in Aurora, Colorado.
Betts starred at Grandview High School, where ESPN ranked her the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 class and she earned McDonald’s All-American honors. She began her college career at Stanford (2022–23), coming off the bench as a freshman, before transferring to UCLA in 2023, where she became the Bruins’ starting center.
In the 2024–25 season, Betts helped UCLA reach the top of the rankings and win the Big Ten tournament, while setting the Bruins’ single-season record for blocked shots. She earned major national honors, including AP and USBWA First-Team All-America selections, and won several defensive awards such as the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, WBCA Defensive Player of the Year, and the Lisa Leslie Award. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Big Ten honors.
Betts has represented the United States in international play. She won a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Chile, won gold at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup in Hungary, and helped the U.S. win a silver medal at the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup in Mexico.
She comes from a sports family and has three siblings: Sienna, Dylan, and Ashton. Betts is known for her height, versatility, and impact on both ends of the floor.
