Karl Sigwald Johannes Bull
Karl Sigwald Johannes Bull (30 June 1860 – 27 December 1936) was a Norwegian military officer and Conservative Party politician. He is best known for serving as Norway’s Minister of Defence from 2 February 1910 to 20 February 1912 in the cabinet of Wollert Konow.
Bull was born in Christiania (now Oslo). He was the son of military officer and politician Anders Sandøe Ørsted Bull and Caroline Elisabeth Dahl, and came from a notable family that included several judges and lawyers.
He began his military career by graduating from officer school in 1880, becoming second lieutenant that year, and premier lieutenant in 1883. He was promoted to captain in 1889. From 1889 to 1891 he worked for the Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority and from 1891 to 1907 as a teacher at the Norwegian Military College; he also wrote about military topics. From 1905 he held the rank of lieutenant colonel and served as Norway’s military representative at the Karlstad negotiations.
In 1911 he was promoted to colonel and became commander of the Fourth Infantry Regiment of East Akershus. After the cabinet resigned in 1912, he returned to his military career. He died on 27 December 1936, aged 76. His son Georg Jacob Falck Bull (1892–1977) later became a major general.
