Karl Gossweiler
Karl Hans Gossweiler (23 December 1884 – 24 April 1940) was a Swiss footballer who played as a forward for FC Basel in the early 1900s. He joined Basel in the 1902–03 season and made his debut on 15 March 1903, scoring in an 8–1 win over FC Mulhouse. He played his league debut on 25 October 1903, scoring in a 3–1 victory against Fortuna Basel, and became a regular starter from then on. In the 1904–05 season he scored a hat-trick in an away 9–2 win at Weissenbühl Bern. The 1906–07 season featured a dramatic playoff against Old Boys; Basel won the decisive match 4–1, with Gossweiler scoring the opening goal, sending Basel to their first finals. The finals were a round-robin format; Basel were beaten by Servette and Young Fellows Zürich, with Servette ultimately becoming Swiss champions. Gossweiler spent eight seasons with Basel, appearing in at least 44 games and scoring at least 23 goals. Records from this era are incomplete.
