José Gentil Rosa
José Gentil Rosa (May 18, 1940 – June 15, 2020), better known as Zé Gentil, was a Brazilian politician and businessman from Maranhão. He began his political career in 1982 by running for the Caxias city council and was elected, serving from 1983 to 1987. He then served in the Legislative Assembly of Maranhão from 1987 to 1991. After a break, he was elected again to the Assembly in 1994 and served from 1995 to 1999. In 2018 he was elected state deputy again, serving from 2019 until his death in 2020. Throughout his career he was affiliated with several parties, including PRB (Republicans); previously he was with PTB, PSC, and PSDC. He had four sons, including Flávio Gentil, who has served as Mayor of Caxias. Gentil Rosa died on June 15, 2020, in Teresina, Piauí, at age 80, from complications related to COVID-19.
