John Shore (trumpeter)
John Shore (c. 1662–1752) was an English trumpeter and lutenist. He came from a family of musicians, including the singer Catherine Shore. Shore served as Sergeant Trumpeter to the royal court. In 1711 he invented the tuning fork. He helped prove that the trumpet could be used in orchestras, not just in military music. Composers George Frideric Handel and Henry Purcell wrote pieces for him.
