Jimmy Flynt, full name Jimmy Ray Flynt, was born June 20, 1948, in Salyersville, Kentucky. He is the younger brother of Larry Flynt and co-founded Hustler. The two brothers built a small chain of semi-private Hustler Clubs in Ohio, starting with Cincinnati in 1970 and Columbus in 1971, and later expanding to Toledo, Akron, and Cleveland. They also started Hustler Magazine, which began as a newsletter in 1972 and grew into a widely sold adult magazine that helped advertise their clubs.

In 1977, Jimmy and Larry Flynt were involved in a major legal fight over obscenity. Larry was convicted, but Jimmy was acquitted. The conviction against Larry was later overturned. The brothers continued to face legal battles for years, including a 1998 indictment on pandering obscenity in Cincinnati. In 1999 they reached a settlement that allowed them to drop several charges in exchange for a fine and a promise not to sell the charged videos in the area; questions about whether the agreement was violated continued for years afterward.

After a 1977 shooting near the county courthouse left Larry partially paralyzed, Jimmy took on more ownership responsibilities. He eventually took control of a Hustler subcompany, Leasure Time Products, which sold sex toys and lewd T-shirts by mail order. In 2012, Jimmy started Flynt Sexy Gifts, a boutique line offering clothing, lingerie, and intimate products. The first shops opened in Cincinnati and Florence, Kentucky, with a store in Naples, Florida, following in 2013.

Jimmy Flynt is a Democrat who strongly defends privacy and free speech and has often worked with the ACLU on these issues. Hustler Magazine has been known for its involvement in public debates and political issues, including publishing provocative material about politicians.

In popular culture, the 1996 film The People vs. Larry Flynt features Jimmy as a character played by Brett Harrelson, the brother of actor Woody Harrelson.

Awards and honors include being inducted into the Hustler Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002 and receiving the Reuben Sturman Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2005 AVN Awards. Jimmy has also pursued legal actions related to ownership and control of Hustler properties, including a 2011 wrongful termination lawsuit against Flynt Management Group.
