Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre
Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre (born February 2, 1977) is a Canadian former professional hockey defenseman and current studio analyst for the Columbus Blue Jackets on FanDuel Sports Network Ohio.
He was born in Montreal, Quebec, and is 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing about 228 pounds. He shoots right and was drafted 179th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues.
Grand-Pierre’s pro career lasted from 1997 to 2013. He started in the QMJHL, then played for the Rochester Americans in the AHL. He made his NHL debut with the Buffalo Sabres in 1998–99 and later played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Atlanta Thrashers, and Washington Capitals, appearing in 269 NHL games and finishing with 7 goals and 13 assists.
After the NHL, he played in Europe. He spent time with Füchse Duisburg and DEG Metro Stars in Germany, joined the New Jersey Devils organization (AHL) in 2007–08, returned to Duisburg, then went to Leksands IF in Sweden in 2009, was loaned to Stjernen in Norway, and had a stint with TPS in Finland before playing for Malmö Redhawks in 2011.
Grand-Pierre is of Haitian descent and is a cousin of Georges Laraque and Jules-Edy Laraque. He is a licensed real estate agent in Ohio, working with HER Real Living and The Raines Group. He gained U.S. citizenship on January 4, 2024.
