Interstate 564 (I-564) is a short Interstate in Virginia, also called Admiral Taussig Boulevard after Rear Admiral Edward D. Taussig. It runs 3.03 miles, entirely in the city of Norfolk, from SR 337 at Naval Station Norfolk to I-64 near the city’s eastern side. I-564 is the main access route to Naval Station Norfolk and connects I-64 with Norfolk International Terminals via SR 406 and with US 460 and SR 165.

The highway starts inside Naval Station Norfolk, where Admiral Taussig Boulevard becomes a four-lane freeway. SR 337 ends at the gate area. I-564 then curves southeast, passes through a trumpet interchange serving gates 3 and 3A, and goes into a tunnel under the Chambers Field runway. East of the tunnel, the road runs southeast along a rail line between the naval air station to the north and Camp Allen to the south.

There is a partial interchange with SR 406 (International Terminal Boulevard) that provides access to Norfolk International Terminals from the east. Within that area, eastbound I-564 has an exit for westbound I-64 and US 460. As I-564 crosses US 460, eastbound traffic has a left exit to and westbound traffic has a left entrance from I-64’s reversible HOV lanes. Eastbound I-564 also has an exit for SR 165 (Little Creek Road), which leads toward SR 170, before the freeway merges into I-64 toward Virginia Beach.

I-564 replaced the old SR 170, which linked Norfolk to northeastern North Carolina. West of I-564, SR 170 formerly crossed a ferry to Hampton Roads and then followed what is now I-64 toward SR 30 northwest of Williamsburg. There are long-range plans to extend I-564 west to Hampton/Newport News via a new bridge–tunnel if traffic demands require it.

The Norfolk metropolitan area has more than 1.5 million people, and I-564 is one of the few links between eastern Tidewater and the northwest. In 2018, exit numbers were added to the route as part of the I-564 Intermodal Connector project that began in 2015. The entire route is in the city of Norfolk.
