Hostile Waters (book)
Hostile Waters is a 1997 nonfiction book by Peter Huchthausen, Igor Kurdin, and R. Alan White about the 1986 loss of the Soviet submarine K-219 off Bermuda, commanded by Captain Igor Britanov. The book covers the events surrounding the incident and its aftermath. A controversial claim, initially made by Soviet authorities, blamed a collision with the US destroyer USS Augusta for the submarine’s loss, though this theory was denied by the US Navy and by Britanov himself. The same story was also told in a 1997 film of the same name. The first edition was published in the US by St. Martin's Press and in the UK by Hutchinson in July 1997.
