Hollywood, Worcestershire
Hollywood is a large village in the Bromsgrove district of Worcestershire, England, just south of Birmingham. It used to be part of Kings Norton, but when Birmingham expanded in 1911 it stayed in Worcestershire. The village lies across several areas and wards, with the southern part known as Drakes Cross and the eastern part sometimes called Trueman’s Heath.
Located in the northeast corner of Worcestershire, Hollywood is about 8 miles from Birmingham, with Solihull and Redditch nearby. After the 1950s, fields and farms gave way to housing and shops, though the Hollywood Golf Club (18 holes) keeps some open space. Local shops include Kilby Packaging and Davies Timber.
Community facilities cluster around Woodrush High School and Coppice Primary School on Shawhurst Lane. St Mary’s Church now has a building beside Coppice School. Hollywood Primary School is just over the county border in Highter’s Heath, Birmingham, while Meadow Green Primary School is in Wythall.
The Packhorse pub sits on Packhorse Lane near Alcester Road, and The White Swan is on Alcester Road. Buses run through the village on routes 150, 50A and 502, and the circular 664/665 is run by LandFlight. The nearest rail stations are Wythall and Whitlocks End, with trains to Stratford-upon-Avon, Birmingham, Kidderminster and Worcester.
Today Hollywood is home to about 7,300 residents, including those in Silver Street and Packhorse areas.
