Glover and Main was a British company that made gas meters and gas stoves. It was based at Angel Road in Edmonton, London. T. Glover & Co made gas meters at the Gothic Works from 1897. Thomas Glover invented the diaphragm gas meter in 1843. The company later joined with R. A. Main to make gas stoves. In the 20th century it became one of the UK’s largest gas cooker manufacturers. A new factory was built in 1951 on part of the Gothic Works. Thorn Electrical Industries bought the business in 1965, and production stopped in 1983. The Gothic Works was demolished and the site is now Glover Close, a retail area with a Tesco and an IKEA store opened on 10 February 2005.
