George Holmes (bishop)

George Holmes (23 November 1858 – 3 February 1912) was an English-born Anglican bishop who served in Canada from 1905 to 1912. He was born in Kendal, Westmorland, and was ordained in 1887. He worked as a Church Mission Society missionary in the Northwest Territories. In 1901 he became Archdeacon of Athabasca. Four years later he became the Bishop of Moosonee, and in 1909 he was translated to the Diocese of Athabasca. He died on 3 February 1912 and was buried at Highgate Cemetery.
