Gary Baildon
Gary Baildon (born 1939 in Nambour, Queensland) is a former Australian politician who served as mayor of the Gold Coast. An independent, he moved to the Gold Coast in the 1960s and was elected to the Gold Coast City Council in 1988. He first became mayor in 1994, but lost the post in the 1995 merger with Albert Shire. He was re-elected as mayor in 1997 after defeating Ray Stevens and served until 2004, when he was defeated by Ron Clarke. He later served as a councillor for Division 7 from 2016 to 2020 before retiring. His son, Andrew Baildon, is a former Olympic swimmer who represented Australia in 1988 and 1992.
