Furneaux is an Australian bioregion that includes the Furneaux Group, more than 100 islands off the northeast coast of Tasmania, plus the northeast corner of Tasmania and Wilson’s Promontory on the mainland. It covers about 537,543 hectares (1,328,300 acres). Furneaux Island sits at the eastern entrance to Bass Strait. The region is home to many native plants and animals, including the Furneaux burrowing crayfish, a threatened species found only here.
