Free Woman is a song by Lady Gaga from her 2020 album Chromatica. It was written by Gaga along with BloodPop, Axwell, and Johannes Klahr. The track blends 1990s-inspired Eurodance and Eurohouse with a confident, danceable groove. Lyrically, it talks about reclaiming who you are after trauma, and it’s written with the LGBT+ community in mind, especially the trans community.

The song appears as the fifth track on Chromatica. A high-quality demo leaked online before the album’s release, gaining a lot of attention. It was later released to radio in France on April 13, 2021, as the album’s fourth single. Remixes by Honey Dijon (Realness Remix) and Clarence Clarity came out, with Clarity’s version featuring extra vocals by Rina Sawayama and later appearing on the remix album Dawn of Chromatica (2021).

Free Woman has been part of Gaga’s live shows, including The Chromatica Ball in 2022, and has appeared in media such as a Dom Pérignon commercial. It was also released as a Remix Session in Apple’s GarageBand, inviting others to remix the track.

Musically, the song carries a bold, empowering message—listeners are encouraged to dance and feel free even without a romantic partner. Critics praised the strong, liberating lyrics, though some described the production as ordinary.

On the charts, Free Woman reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Songs list and appeared on various national charts around the world. The song’s remix versions helped it reach broader audiences and kept its message of empowerment alive in clubs and performances.
