Flight interruption manifest
A Flight Interruption Manifest (FIM) is a substitute ticket given when a passenger’s trip is disrupted by schedule changes, overbooking, or cancellation. An airline agent at the gate, ticket counter, or transit desk issues it and it notes the passenger’s original routing and ticket numbers plus the new routing, making the FIM the new ticket. The FIM is valid only for that specific flight on a different airline than the original ticket. For example, a Delta agent could issue a FIM for a United flight and send the data to United, and the FIM would be treated as the ticket for the United flight. FIMs can be impractical with e-tickets because creating one often means converting the e-ticket to a paper ticket and sending data to another airline. Some airlines announced in 2000 that they would work together to smooth and digitize these transactions.
