Fishlabs GmbH is a German video game developer based in Hamburg, founded in 2004 by Michael Schade and Christian Lohr. They’re best known for the Galaxy on Fire mobile series.

In its early years, Fishlabs received funding and released several titles, including advergames like Waterslide Extreme. In 2010 the company planned a Series B round and aimed to move into massively multiplayer online games. By 2013, money ran out and the company entered self-administration, cutting 25 jobs.

Koch Media acquired Fishlabs in December 2013 and integrated it into its Deep Silver publishing label as Deep Silver Fishlabs. The founders left and started a new studio, Rockfish Games. The move also shifted Fishlabs toward publishing alongside development.

In March 2022, Fishlabs received 5.5 million euros in government funding for Project Black, described as a third-person action game with a planned completion around 2026. By January 2023 the company employed 95 people. In September 2023, Embracer Group restructured and Project Black was cancelled, with about 12 staff laid off.

Fishlabs then proposed a new Red Faction project after Volition closed, but that title was cancelled in November 2023, resulting in about 50 layoffs.

As of 2024, Fishlabs has around 70 employees and remains part of Deep Silver (Plaion). The company continues to operate under the Deep Silver publishing umbrella.
