Fényi (crater)

Fényi is a small 38-km-wide crater on the far side of the Moon. It sits just south of the large ejecta blanket from the Orientale impact basin to the north, with the bigger Mendel crater about two diameters to the southwest. Most of Fényi’s rim is buried under Orientale ejecta; only a ring of material remains to show the original edge. The surrounding terrain features radial, braided grooves running north to south, and a small craterlet lies along the northeast inner wall. Fényi lies within the 630-km Mendel–Rydberg Basin, a Nectarian-age impact basin. The crater is named after Gyula Fényi. On lunar maps, nearby craters labeled with a letter have that letter placed on the side of the crater midpoint closest to Fényi.
