Ellie Kleinheinz
Ellie Kleinheinz is an American luger from Santa Clara, California, born on September 8, 2007. She competes in women’s singles and has won three U.S. national titles: Youth in 2022 and 2023, and Junior in 2025. She represented the United States at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Pyeongchang and races on the Junior World Cup circuit.
Ellie started luge at age 11 after a USA Luge Slider Search in Palo Alto. She trained in Lake Placid and joined the U.S. Development Team. She won her first major gold at the 2020 Empire State Games in Lake Placid and a second gold there in 2022. In 2020 she also won the USA Luge Youth B National Championship, earning a promotion to the U.S. Candidate Team and later international training in Austria and Latvia.
She qualified for the 2023 Asian Continental Cup in South Korea and, in 2023, won the Youth A National Championship (14–18). In 2025, at age 17, she won the Norton Junior National Championship in Park City, Utah (under 21) with a four-run time of 3:00.871, making her one of the few to win gold in Youth B, Youth A, and Junior.
Ellie attended Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, where she played field hockey and softball, and graduated in 2025.
