El Rey (Tito Puente album)
El Rey is a 1984 Latin jazz album by Tito Puente, released on the Concord Picante label. Puente moves further into jazz here, performing on timbales and vibraphone (and vocals). The program includes a medley of Stella by Starlight and (Tu, Mi) Delirio, as well as Autumn Leaves and Rainfall, plus Coltrane’s Giant Steps and Equinox, along with Puente’s Oye Como Va and Linda Chicana. The nine‑piece band features Tito Puente (timbales, vibes, vocals); Johnny "Dandy" Rodriguez (bongos, congas, vocals); Jose Madera (congas, timbales); Francisco Aguabella (congas); Ray Gonzales (trumpet, flugelhorn); Mario Rivera (flute, soprano and tenor sax); Jimmy Frisaura (valve trombone); Jorge Dalto (acoustic and electric piano); and Bobby Rodriguez (bass). All arrangements are by Puente, except Giant Steps, arranged by Jorge Dalto. Puente produced the album.
