Earth Intruders
Earth Intruders is a song by Icelandic singer Björk. It was the lead single from her 2007 album Volta and was co-produced by Timbaland and Danja, with Congolese group Konono Nº1 playing electric likembes. Björk described the track as chaotic and inspired by a dream during a flight to New York where a huge wave of poverty-stricken people overwhelmed the plane.
The song was released digitally in April 2007, with a physical box-set arriving in February 2008. It was widely discussed online before and after release and received strong critical praise for its bold, distinctive sound. In the United States, it reached number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100, Björk’s highest position there.
The music video, directed by Michel Ocelot, features Björk’s face with a backdrop of silhouetted tribal dancers and psychedelic visuals. It was nominated for Best Video at the 2007 Q Awards. Björk performed Earth Intruders on Saturday Night Live in 2007, on Later... with Jools Holland, and it became a staple of her Volta tour, often opening shows.
A digital EP of club remixes followed in 2007, and a limited multiformat box set with vinyls, a CD, and a DVD was released in early 2008.
