Duane Woerth
Duane E. Woerth (born 1948) is an American pilot and former labor union leader. Born in Scribner, Nebraska, he served in the U.S. Air Force and rose to lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard. After leaving the military, he flew for Braniff Airlines for five years and then spent 23 years with Northwest Airlines, including a board seat from 1993 to 1998. He was active in the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), serving as first vice president for eight years, then executive vice president, and representing ALPA on the board of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations. In 1998 he was elected president of ALPA. Under his leadership, the union grew by absorbing independent pilots' unions, strengthened its finances, and doubled donations to its political action committee. He also served as a vice-president of the AFL-CIO. Woerth retired from ALPA in 2006 and from the AFL-CIO in 2007. That year, he co-founded Sojern, a big data and marketing company, and served on its board. From 2010 to 2013, he represented the United States on the council of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
