Delmarva Power is an energy company that delivers electricity and natural gas to people on the Delmarva Peninsula, serving parts of Delaware and Maryland. It operates as a subsidiary of Exelon. The service area covers about 5,000 square miles, with 312,000 electric customers in Delaware, 203,000 electric customers in Maryland, and 129,000 natural gas customers in northern Delaware. The company has 961 employees and runs 10 facilities and 160 substations. It is part of the PJM Interconnection, the regional electricity market. Delmarva Power started in 1909 as Delaware Power & Light and has grown through several mergers, including acquisitions of Conowingo Power and Atlantic Energy in the 1990s. It became part of Pepco Holdings, and after Exelon’s 2016 acquisition of Pepco Holdings, Exelon became its parent company. In 2018, the company reduced a planned rate increase in Delaware following federal tax cuts. Delmarva Power also supports communities through donations and volunteer work by employees.
