Deborah J. Ross (born Deborah Jean Ross in April 1947, also known as Deborah Wheeler) is an American author who writes fantasy and science fiction. She grew up in California and graduated from Portland State University in 1973. She befriended writer Marion Zimmer Bradley, and in 1984 submitted her first published short story, "Imperatrix," for Bradley's Sword and Sorceress anthology, published under her married name Deborah Wheeler. Ross wrote many short stories and two novels, Jaydium and Northlight, for DAW Books. Before Bradley's death in 1999, she was invited to work on a Darkover project with Bradley; Ross later returned to using her maiden name. She collaborated with Bradley on several Darkover books and created her own original fantasy series, planned as a trilogy. The Darkover anthologies began to be published again in 2013, and a collection of Ross's stories has appeared.
