Concha Acústica de Ponce
Concha Acústica de Ponce (Ponce Acoustic Shell) is an open-air music and performing arts venue in Barrio Cuarto, Ponce, Puerto Rico. It sits in Parque de la Abolición and is owned and managed by the Ponce Municipal Government. The amphitheater seats about 2,000 people with long concrete benches and a lawn area.
Opened in 1956 after a redesign by Francisco Porrata-Doría, the project also updated the nearby Monumento a la abolición de la esclavitud. The stage has two marble sides with six relief sculptures honoring Ponce’s notable musicians: on the left, Juan Morel Campos, Manuel G. Tavarez, Arístides Chavier; on the right, Antonio Paoli, Julio C. Arteaga, Juan Ríos Ovalle.
The amphitheater is located at the fork of Salud Street and Marina Street, just north of the abolition monument. The surrounding park forms a triangular city block.
Concha Acústica hosts cultural events, including performances by the Ponce Municipal Band and the Ponce Jazz Festival. It’s open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
