Communes of Mauritania

Communes of Mauritania are the smallest units of local government in the country. They are known as baladiyyāt (Arabic: بلديات) and are called communes in French. Each commune has a municipal council. There are 238 communes in Mauritania as of 2023. Communes are located within departments in the country’s regions (wilayas).
