Clisson
Clisson is a town in western France, in the Loire-Atlantique department of the Pays de la Loire region. It sits where the Sèvre Nantaise and the Moine rivers meet, about 27 kilometers southeast of Nantes.
The town’s name comes from a historic stronghold. Clisson has impressive ruins dating back to the 13th century. The Château de Clisson was destroyed in 1792–1793 during the War in the Vendée. In the early 1800s the castle area was rebuilt according to the plans of the sculptor François-Frédéric Lemot. There are pretty parks along the rivers, and the Moine is crossed by an old Gothic bridge and a modern viaduct.
Clisson hosts the Hellfest music festival outside the town since 2006.
As of 2023, about 7,452 people live in Clisson. The town covers about 111.3 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 7 to 71 meters. The mayor for 2020–2026 is Xavier Bonnet.
