Cheran Superfast Express
Cheran Superfast Express is a daily overnight train of Southern Railways between Chennai Central and Coimbatore Junction in Tamil Nadu, via Salem. It covers about 496 km in around 8 hours 15 minutes, averaging 60 km/h with stops. The train uses modern LHB coaches (since 2017) and is hauled by a WAP-7 locomotive along the whole route. It shares its rake with the Thiruvananthapuram Mail. The service offers AC First, AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, Sleeper, and General Unreserved classes, with seating, sleeping berths, and catering. Train numbers are 12673 (Chennai Central to Coimbatore) and 12674 (reverse). The route has 7 stops. The Cheran Express started on 5 July 1984 as a day train and was later converted to a night service with sleepers. It has had some accidents in the past, including a 2005 toilet fire and a 2007 derailment near Ambur that injured passengers.
