Call My Name (Cheryl song)
Call My Name is a 2012 single by English singer Cheryl from her third album, A Million Lights. Written and produced by Calvin Harris, with Kuk Harrell handling Cheryl’s vocal production, the dance-pop and EDM track was released as the album’s lead single on 18 May 2012 through Fascination and Polydor Records. The song is known for its catchy chorus and club-ready production, marking a departure in style from Cheryl’s earlier hits.
Critics gave it mostly positive reviews, praising its hook and energy while noting it’s not particularly original compared to Harris’s other work. Some reviews described it as a strong, radio-friendly dance track, though a few felt it was generic. The song drew comparisons to Rihanna’s We Found Love and Harris’s other collaborations, but Cheryl explained that, while produced by the same person, the songs still sounded different.
Call My Name achieved strong chart performance. It reached number one in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland, and Poland, and earned praise for its rapid early sales in the UK (selling 97,000 copies in just three days and over 150,000 in the first week). It later sold around 600,000 copies in the UK and was certified Platinum in 2021. In New Zealand, the track peaked at number 13 and achieved Gold certification, while it reached the top 50 in Australia.
The accompanying music video was directed by Anthony Mandler and features Cheryl performing a high-energy dance routine with backup dancers, including scenes in a graffiti-covered setting and shots of the London Eye. Teasers were released in late April 2012, with the full video debuting on 2 May 2012. To promote the song, Cheryl performed it on The Graham Norton Show, The Voice UK, Capital FM’s Summertime Ball, and other live events, though some performances sparked lip-syncing debates.
Credits for the track come from the A Million Lights liner notes.
