Brandix
Brandix Apparel Limited is a private clothing manufacturer based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1969 with help from American Martin Trust and began operations in 1972 as part of the Omar Group. Today, Brandix is a large global exporter and employer, with more than 60,000 workers and revenue around US$820 million in 2020–21.
The company has branches around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Mauritius, and the Cayman Islands. Domestically, its plants are in Seeduwa, Mirigama, Batticaloa, and Pannala. Priyan Fernando serves as chairman and Ashroff Omar as CEO. Moose Clothing Company, established in 2018, is a Brandix subsidiary. Fortude, originally Brandix i3 (founded in 2012 and renamed in 2017), provides enterprise technology software and consulting.
Key milestones include becoming Brandix Pvt Ltd in 2002, the Seeduwa branch earning the world’s first LEED Platinum certification in 2008, and Brandix being the first apparel company to obtain ISO 50001 energy management certification in 2011. In 2019, the Batticaloa factory achieved Net Zero Carbon status, and Brandix won the Exporter of the Year award at Sri Lanka’s National Export Awards for 2018/19. In 2023, the company entered the Singapore market through an agreement with Mustafa Centre.
Safety and labour news: In 2023, a female worker named Pushpalatha died at work. Unions say her death was preventable and linked to intense production pressure and alleged violations of workers’ rights.
