Blue is a 2012 song by the South Korean boy band BigBang, taken from their fifth Korean-language EP, Alive. It was released as the EP’s lead single on February 22, 2012, by YG Entertainment. The song was written by G-Dragon and Teddy Park, with rap parts by T.O.P. It expresses the sadness and emptiness after a breakup, showing a more emotional and vulnerable side of the group while still offering a comforting mood.

Critics generally praised Blue for its fresh sound and strong emotional impact. It was named Song of the Month at the Cyworld Digital Music Awards and at the Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards due to its digital success. The track debuted at number one on both the Gaon Digital Chart and the K-pop Hot 100, and ended 2012 as one of Korea’s best-selling singles, with around 3.3 million digital downloads that year.

The music video was filmed in New York City and directed by Han Sa-min. It, along with the single’s release, helped the video become a major hit on YouTube, drawing millions of views quickly. To promote Blue, BigBang performed on South Korean music programs like Inkigayo and M Countdown. The song was also part of the Alive Galaxy Tour, the group’s first worldwide concert run, which spanned 48 shows from March 2012 to January 2013.

Musically, Blue is written in G major at about 125 BPM. The title reflects the song’s mood—longing and sadness after a breakup—while the track also conveys a sense of warmth and comfort. A Japanese version appeared on the Japanese album Blue (2012), and the song was later included on BigBang’s best-of collection, The Best of Big Bang 2006-2014.

Blue earned several year-end and chart awards and remains a defining, smoother R&B-tinged hit for BigBang.
