Bill Marmion
William Richard Marmion, known as Bill Marmion, is a Western Australian Liberal politician. He was the member for Nedlands in the WA Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2021 and served as a minister in the Colin Barnett government from 2010 to 2017. His ministerial roles included Commerce, Housing and Science and Innovation; Environment and Water; Mines and Petroleum; Finance; State Development; and Transport.
From June 2019 to November 2020, Marmion was the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in Western Australia and the Deputy Leader of the Opposition under Liza Harvey. Libby Mettam succeeded him in this role.
Marmion was born on 22 May 1954 in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. He studied at Bunbury High School, Hale School, and the University of Western Australia, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. Before entering politics, he worked as a civil engineer for Main Roads WA, a value-for-money auditor, ran his own planning business, and was involved with Engineers Australia.
He won the seat of Nedlands in 2008, taking it from independent Sue Walker, who had left the Liberal Party earlier that year. Marmion faced a significant drop in support in 2017 and was defeated in 2021 by Katrina Stratton of the Labor Party after preference preferences, ending his time in Parliament.
