Backusburg is an unincorporated community in Calloway County, Kentucky, United States. Nearby are two important archaeological sites, including the Backusburg Mounds, a notable site in the Jackson Purchase region. The town’s post office first opened in 1846 as Clarks River, closed in 1860, and was reopened in 1873 as Backusburg. It is said the town was named after Asa Backus, who co-owned a local sawmill and won a coin flip that decided the name. The location is about 36.71°N, 88.47°W and roughly 433 feet above sea level.
