Arly Velásquez
Arly Aristides Velásquez Peñaloza (born August 17, 1988) is a Mexican Paralympic alpine skier who has competed in the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Games. At age 13 he broke his back in a mountain biking accident, leaving him with a permanent spinal injury and unable to walk. After trying several wheelchair sports—including shot put, wheelchair basketball and tennis—he found mono-skiing, a seated form of skiing that uses a single ski and ski poles to steer. Velásquez and teammate Armando Ruiz represented Mexico at the 2010 Games. He later studied film in Argentina.
