Antyodaya Express is a series of unreserved, superfast trains run by Indian Railways to provide affordable overnight travel. They were announced in the 2016 Railway Budget as overnight unreserved services. The name Antyodaya links to serving the common people, and the coaches include features like bio-toilets and power sockets. The first service ran on 27 February 2017 between Ernakulam Junction (Kochi) and Howrah, with regular services starting in March 2017. The trains use LHB coaches on broad gauge tracks. They offer general unreserved seating, with no sleeping berths. Onboard facilities include catering through vendor services, electric outlets, purified water dispensers, water vending machines, fire extinguishers, and CCTV for safety; baggage can be stored under seats and on overhead racks. The exteriors feature vinyl wraps for aesthetics, and the coaches include safety and accessibility features such as smoke alarms and Braille indicators. Antyodaya Express sits in Indian Railways’ lineup after Jan Sadharan Express and before Amrit Bharat Express.
