Andrew Aplin
Andrew Aplin (born March 21, 1991) is a former American professional baseball outfielder. He grew up in Suisun City, California, spent part of his childhood in the Phoenix area, and finished high school at Vanden High School in Fairfield. He played college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils. After high school, he was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2009 (33rd round) but chose to attend ASU. In 2011 he played summer baseball in the Cape Cod League for the Orleans Firebirds.
The Houston Astros selected him in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB draft, and he began his pro career in the minors with the Tri-City ValleyCats, then the Lancaster JetHawks and the Corpus Christi Hooks. In 2014 he moved up to the Astros’ AAA affiliate to replace an injured outfielder. The Astros added him to their 40-man roster after the 2015 season and he played the year for Fresno in the AAA Pacific Coast League.
On May 24, 2017, the Astros traded Aplin to the Seattle Mariners, and he was designated for assignment a couple of weeks later. In 2018 he split time between the Arkansas Travelers and Tacoma Rainiers. He became a free agent in November 2018 and signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but was released in May 2019. He then signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League in June 2019 and became a free agent after that season. Aplin is a former professional outfielder who spent several years in the minor leagues in the 2010s.
