Ana-Paula Correia
Ana-Paula Correia is a professor of Learning Technologies and the Ted and Lois Cyphert Distinguished Professor in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. She studies how people learn with technology, including online teaching, collaborative learning, human–computer interaction, and curriculum development in educational technology. She also conducts research in artificial intelligence for education.
Education: She earned a B.S. from the University of Minho in Portugal in 1989 and an M.S. there in 1996. She moved to the United States, where she earned another M.S. in 2001 and a Ph.D. in 2005 from Indiana University Bloomington. Her Ph.D. thesis was “Understanding conflict in teamwork: contributions of a technology-rich environment to conflict management.”
Career: Correia joined Iowa State University in 2005 and moved to Ohio State University in 2016, where she serves as the Director of the Center on Education and Training for Employment.
Research focus: Her work centers on four interconnected areas—online learning and teaching, collaborative learning, human–computer interaction, and curriculum development in educational technology—united by the theme of learning design. She also conducts research in artificial intelligence.
Nomophobia: Her research on nomophobia, the fear of being without a smartphone, led to the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q), which has been used in many countries.
Awards: In 2023 she received the Best Book Chapter Award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT).
