Alessandro Lami
Alessandro Lami (27 January 1949 – 8 March 2015) was an Italian classical philologist. He was born in Rosignano Marittimo and grew up in Castiglioncello. He studied Latin and Classical Greek at the Liceo Classico Niccolini Guerrazzi in Livorno, where he met his wife Elisabetta Piccioni. He received a scholarship from the Scuola Normale Superiore and completed his studies at the University of Pisa under Vincenzo di Benedetto. Lami taught Greek literature at Pisa, first as an assistant, then as an associate professor. He worked with the journal Galenos, directed by his friend Ivan Garofalo, focusing on medical texts. His research covered the history of Greek philosophy, the history of Greek medicine, and the Hippocratic Corpus. His best-known work is his commentary and translation of Galen’s De opinionibus propriis. He died on 8 March 2015 in Livorno, aged 66, and his ashes were laid to rest in the sea at Castiglioncello.
