21 and a Wake-Up
21 and a Wake-Up is a 2009 American war drama directed and written by Chris McIntyre. It stars Amy Acker, Danica McKellar, and Faye Dunaway, with Tom Sizemore, Ed Begley Jr., Wes Studi, and others. The film was shot on location in Vietnam, the first American Vietnam War movie to be filmed there after the war. Based on about a dozen true stories, it centers on the final days of the 24th Evacuation Hospital, the last major Army hospital in the south to close as American forces pulled out of Southeast Asia. The story draws on real Marines known to McIntyre and on Dr. Marvin Wayne, a decorated physician at the 24th Evac in its final year. Described as an action-packed drama, the film follows three young nurses, including one who undertakes a dangerous journey up the Mekong River to Cambodia to save a very young Vietnamese-American girl before her life is destroyed by the American bombing of Cambodia. Release date: October 30, 2009.
