The Brown University football team finished 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League, earning a share of the Ivy League championship. It was head coach Phil Estes’s second season. The Bears used a pro-style offense and a 4-3 defense led by defensive coordinator David Duggan. Captains were James Perry, A. Smith, and Jason Wargin. Home games were at Brown Stadium in Providence, Rhode Island. Brown outscored opponents 324-239 and Ivy opponents 225-168. They beat Yale, another Ivy co-champion, helping Brown win its first Ivy title since 1976. They were unranked most of the year but finished No. 25 in the final Division I-AA poll.
