1991 Newsweek Champions Cup and the Virginia Slims of Palm Springs
The 1991 Newsweek Champions Cup and the Virginia Slims of Palm Springs were tennis tournaments played on outdoor hard courts in Indian Wells, California. The event ran from March 2 to March 16, 1991 and was the 18th edition of the Indian Wells tournament. It was part of the ATP Tour’s Masters Series (then called the ATP Super 9) and the WTA Tour’s Tier II series, with prize money of $750,000.
Finals and champions
- Men’s singles: Jim Courier defeated Guy Forget in a five-set final, 4–6, 6–3, 4–6, 6–3, 7–6 (7–4). It was Courier’s first Masters title, his first since the year’s start, and his first Masters-level championship.
- Men’s doubles: Jim Courier / Javier Sánchez defeated Guy Forget / Henri Leconte, 7–6, 3–6, 6–3.
- Women’s singles: Martina Navratilova defeated Monica Seles, 6–2, 7–6 (8–6). Navratilova’s win was her second title of the year and the 154th of her career.
- Women’s doubles: The final was not played due to rain.
