1979 Florida Federal Open
The 1979 Florida Federal Open was a women’s tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at East Lake Woodlands Country Club in Oldsmar, Florida. It was part of the AAA category of the Colgate Series and the seventh edition of the event, held from October 22 to October 28, 1979. The tournament featured a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw, with total prize money of $100,000 and an attendance of 41,903.
In singles, third-seeded Evonne Goolagong Cawley won the title, defeating defending champion Virginia Wade in the final, 6–0, 6–3, and earning $20,000.
In doubles, Anne Smith and Virginia Ruzici defeated Ilana Kloss and Betty-Ann Stuart, 7–5, 4–6, 7–5.
