1966–67 Football League Cup
1966–67 Football League Cup
The seventh season of the League Cup, a knockout competition for England’s top 92 football clubs. The tournament ran from 23 August 1966 to the final on 4 March 1967. This was the first season that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wolverhampton Wanderers took part; Everton and Liverpool did not compete.
The final was played at Wembley Stadium in London, between Queens Park Rangers (QPR) from the Third Division and West Bromwich Albion from the First Division. It was the first League Cup final held at a neutral venue instead of being two-legged. West Brom led 2–0 at half-time after Clive Clark scored twice, but QPR fought back with goals from Roger Morgan, Rodney Marsh, and Mark Lazarus to win 3–2. QPR also won the Third Division that season.
The semi-finals were two-legged. Of the 90 teams, 38 had byes to the second round, with the other 52 starting in the first round. The final took place on 4 March 1967.
