1956 Missouri gubernatorial election
The election was held on November 6, 1956. Democrat James T. Blair Jr., the lieutenant governor, defeated Republican Lon Hocker. Blair received 941,528 votes (52.1%), while Hocker received 866,810 votes (47.9%). The governor before the election was Phil M. Donnelly, a Democrat. Blair, also a Democrat, became the new Governor of Missouri.
