1927 Far Eastern Championship Games
The 1927 Far Eastern Championship Games was the eighth edition of the regional multi-sport event for China, Japan, and the Philippines. It took place in Shanghai, Republic of China, from August 28 to August 31, 1927. Eight sports were competed over four days.
This was the last time the games were held every two years. After 1927, the event moved to a four-year cycle and was held in the even years between the Olympics.
Women took part for the first time. A demonstration volleyball match was played by an Eastern Chinese women’s team, but some audience members reacted badly, shouting at the players and the match ended early.
The football match between China and the Philippines caused more trouble, with players fighting and objects being thrown onto the pitch. At the post‑games banquet, Chinese head organizer Shen Siliang said that Chinese and Japanese women should avoid the Filipino delegation.
For football, China was represented by South China AA, a team based in Hong Kong.
