19 September 2010 Baghdad bombings
Two car bombings hit Baghdad on 19 September 2010, killing at least 31 people and injuring more than 100. The first blast occurred in the Mansour district near the Asiacell office around 10:10 am, killing 10 people. Minutes later, a second explosion hit the Al Kadhimiyah area, near Iraqi Federal Police and National Security Ministry offices in Adan Square, killing about 21 and injuring 71.
On 24 September, the Islamic State of Iraq claimed responsibility for the attacks. Iraqi officials said the violence reflected ongoing political deadlock after the March 2010 elections, as no bloc could form a majority, and it came as the United States began reducing its troops and handing security duties to Iraqi forces.
