127th Motor Rifle Division (Russia)
The 127th Motor Rifle Division is a unit of the Russian Ground Forces based in Sergeyevka, Primorsky Krai, and is part of the 5th Combined Arms Army. It traces its origins to the 2nd Collective Farm Division, formed in 1932, which was renamed the 66th Rifle Division in 1936. In World War II, the division fought in the Far East and took part in the Soviet invasion of Manchuria in August 1945, earning the Order of Kutuzov, Second Class.
After the war, the unit underwent several name changes: it became the 2nd Tank Division in 1945, then the 32nd Tank Division in 1957, followed by the 66th Tank Division in 1965. In 1970 it was reorganised as the 277th Motor Rifle Division, with its headquarters moved to Sergeyevka in 1981. On June 1, 1990, it was redesignated as the 127th Machine Gun Artillery Division, absorbing and reorganising several regiments.
Around 2008–2009 the division was restructured under the Russian Ground Forces’ shift to brigades, forming the 59th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade at Sergeyevka and the 60th Motor Rifle Brigade at Lipovtsy. In 2018 the 59th Motor Rifle Brigade was reformed as the 127th Motor Rifle Division, and the unit began combat training in 2019. The division carries the Military Unit Number 44980 and has been involved in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
