Wolfbrook Arena
Wolfbrook Arena is an indoor arena in Addington, Christchurch, New Zealand. It opened in September 1998 and is one of the country’s largest indoor venues. It can seat about 7,000 for sporting events and up to around 9,000 for concerts.
Location and facilities: The arena sits at 55 Jack Hinton Drive, Addington, near Addington Raceway and Christchurch Stadium, roughly 10 minutes from Christchurch’s city centre. The surrounding complex provides about 3,000 parking spaces.
Name changes: The venue has carried several names over the years due to sponsors: Westpac Trust Centre (1998–2007), Westpac Arena (2007–2010), CBS Canterbury Arena (2010–2014), Horncastle Arena (2014–2020), Christchurch Arena (2020–2023), and Wolfbrook Arena since June 2023.
Ownership and management: It is owned and operated by Venues Ōtautahi, the group that also runs other Christchurch venues.
Tenants and events: The arena has hosted Canterbury Rams, New Zealand Breakers, and Mainland Tactix, along with international basketball and netball fixtures. It was the home of the 1999 Netball World Championships, and has hosted WWE tours in 2007–08 and 2017, as well as many concerts and exhibitions like Armageddon Expo and Home Show. The arena is affectionately known as “The Woolshed” by fans and is sometimes called the “horseshoe” for its distinctive exterior.
Today, Wolfbrook Arena remains a key venue for sport, concerts, expos, and other events in Christchurch.
